The "distressed" look adds character (and minimizes worries about future scratches, dents, spills etc). We eat dinner on it while watching TV and it is the perfect height. The casters make it easy to move about. Ample storage for all the remotes, keyboards and blankets (in the basket). Bottom line, very nice table that will be used for years to come!

With Amazon, the experience is also very high customer service and understanding from merchants. However, the piece arrived with two legs broken off completely. It was clearly a handling and delivery issue, but it is unclear if it was FedEx's fault or just came out of the warehouse this way. The unit is packed well in an enormous box. We called the merchant and sent pictures. However, since then we have received no assurance that a replacement is on the way; the response was "let us check with the warehouse, and we are really busy with the holidays". In addition, since the merchant intended to make a claim with the shipper, the asked us to dispose of the piece! (because they did not want to pay the $100 of the return delivery). We have no alternatives on how to dispose this without cost, or back injury. The whole experience was terrible. Do not recommend this piece or this merchant.

It's a rainy, cold day, and I have a hot bottle of sake and an enormous pile of mikan. What's missing from this picture? That's right, a real kotatsu. A real kotatsu is not just a coffee table. A real kotatsu is a table with a heater attached to its underside and a large comforter over the top. A real kotatsu is the center-point for modern Japanese family life. On the really cold days, it's where you sit most of the day. You eat at it, you drink at it, and, eventually, if you're crazy or lazy or have drunk too much, you fall asleep under it. (And when you wake up in the morning, you're hungover and dehydrated, but them's the breaks.
This is not a kotatsu. This is a very nice-looking, seemingly solidly built coffee table, and I'm sure it would make a lovely addition to a house. Kudos to you, WillyGoat Inc., for your lovely coffee table.
But it's not a kotatsu.

(More customer reviews)We owned a set of these from 2005 to 2010 and just purchased a second set (both purchased from Gaiam). This is possibly the best furniture we've ever owned. Here's why:
Very light: This means they are easy to move around the house.
Many uses: Foot rests, stools, tables, and (for 3-7 year olds) chairs.
Inexpensive: These did wear out after 5 years (see below) but to replace them with something longer lasting would cost much more, and would be less functional because it would be too heavy to move around. That would probably mean owning several types of items to duplicate the same functionality - the fact that these were so light is why we used them for so many different functions.
The one downside is they are made of straw so they do wear out. We used them daily and had an energetic kid who has used and abused them extensively. The largest size lasted us 5 years, and it looks like the medium size will go 6 years, while the small size with its tighter weave will last possibly as long as 10 years.
Given how inexpensive and useful these are, we'll probably just buy another set every 5 years or so, though that I guess that means we'll eventually have a lot of the smaller size, which seems to last much longer.

I bought it to go over a 24" midwest crate. I think they need a re-design on this product. The legs never did fit right even after my husband tried everything. The screws stick out too far. If they had thought to countersink the screws it would have been fine. Too late for us to return because we have scratched it trying to "fix" it. It is beautiful just be very careful not to scratch so you can return it. Maybe if they get enough complaints...

I got the cups out of the packaging and treated them with the utmost care. The first drink I put into it the interior wall on the bottom cracked. I contacted the manufacturer, no warranty.
